The City of Defiance has implemented several improvements to our downtown riverfront. Projects completed along the Auglaize and Maumee, near the confluence include:
- stabilization of river bank
- removal of invasive vegetation
- establishing habitat for native wildlife
- improved views and access for recreation
Streambank Stabilization and Water Quality Improvement practices were implemented from 2017 through 2020 at Pontiac Park and along Fort Street.
Ohio EPA awarded $400,000 of Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) funding to the City of Defiance to be used for Riverbank Stabilization – starting with Pontiac Park as the top priority for implementation. The City coordinated the project and worked with the Defiance County Metro Parks who owns Pontiac Park. The Mannik and Smith Group (MSG) was contracted complete the site assessment and project design.
Complete details of the project are available on the Land to Lake website.
