Bronson Park
Updates to Bronson Park include all new playground equipment, river swings, updates to the shelter houses, ADA compliant sidewalks from the parking lot to the shelter houses, and a new multi-use path to connect the Splash Park with Bronson Park.

Cleveland/Ottawa Intersection Improvements
The project in the area of the intersection of Ottawa Avenue and Cleveland Avenue will provide safety upgrades for motorists and non-mortorists.

College Place
College Place Improvements included reconstruction of the existing roadway from Clinton Street to Webster Street. Improvements include: new sidewalks on the north side, new shared use path with lighting along the south side, a reduction in the roadway width to two 10’ lanes, and the installation of an 8’ tree lawn between the roadway and the shared use path for green infrastructure placement.

Division of Parks & Recreation
This division oversees and maintains Riverside Cemetery and all City Parks including the upkeep of all the athletic fields, swimming pool, Splash Park, and facilities within these parks.

East High Street
The project includes new sidewalk, lighting, street trees, sewer rehabilitation, and storm water components engineered to capture, store and filter rainwater that formerly drained into city sewers.

Eastside Neighborhood Improvements
Comprehensive improvements in the Ottawa Avenue area of the Eastside Neighborhood. Projects include new storm sewers along Ottawa, Thurman, and Ayersville Avenues; new sidewalks and road repaving; new waterline on Myrna; and a new neighborhood park with playgrounds and a shelter house.

GAC Project
The Defiance Water Plant Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Project is finally underway! Crews from Peterson Construction have begun work onsite including relocating and replacing the Carbon Dioxide Tank, as well as beginning the construction of the basin that will hold the treated water that will be taken through the GAC filters before disinfection.

Gateway Park
Once completed, Gateway Park will house an open-air pavilion for the permanent home of the Downtown Farmer’s Market and food truck parking, public restrooms, boat docks, outdoor seating, and an amphitheater overlooking the river.

Holgate Park
In 2018, renovations began at Holgate Avenue Park. The older playground equipment was removed to make way for new playground equipment, a renovated basketball court, new landscaping and a new shelter house.

Our Engineers Office and City Officials are always working to improve infrastructure and keep Defiance a Great Place to live.

Jefferson Roundabout
The Jefferson Avenue Roundabout included improvements to the Jefferson Avenue and Palmer Drive intersection with the installation of a single lane roundabout with a northbound right turn bypass lane.

Purple Heart Bridge
Complete reconstruction of the Clinton Street Bridge in downtown Defiance. The Purple Heart Bridge on Clinton Street in the city of Defiance received the distinction of 2020 Outstanding New Short Span during the annual awards presented in March 2021 by the Association for Bridge Construction and Design (ABCD).

Reservoir Trail
The Reservoir Nature Trail is located to the north of the Reservoir and connects with the Canal Parkway Phase 1 Project, the walking trail around the reservoir.

Riverfront Improvements
The City of Defiance has implemented several improvements to our downtown riverfront.

Riverside Park
In 2021, the city contracted to have the Optimist Soccer fields at Riverside Park redesigned, regraded and reseeded.

Splash Park
The Defiance Splash Park opened on July 4, 2018. Repurposing the old Bronson Pool facility, this water park is ADA compliant and free to all.
