Mike McCann has been the Mayor of Defiance, Ohio, since 2016. A native of Defiance, McCann has deep roots in the community, which have significantly influenced his commitment to public service. He has served on many government and non-profit boards.
Beyond his mayoral duties, McCann, alongside his wife Laurie, established the Good Citizen Award in 2015. This annual accolade honors an outstanding citizen in the Defiance area, reflecting the couple’s dedication to recognizing and promoting civic responsibility. Their long-lasting family business, ServiceMaster by McCann, also serves the Defiance community. Mike and his wife Laurie have five adult children and twelve grandchildren.
Mayor McCann’s tenure is marked by his dedication to enhancing the quality of life in Defiance. He and his staff have focused on economic development, housing initiatives, community involvement, and strengthening the City’s partnerships to make Defiance a “Great Place to Live”.
Mike and his staff are currently working on the Parks & Riverfront Master Plan. In September 2023, the Defiance City Council adopted the Defiance Comprehensive Community Action Plan, a thorough examination of the city's development goals and how they aligned with the community's needs. A goal listed in the Comprehensive Community Action Plan is the creation of a Parks & Riverfront Master Plan, a thorough look at how green spaces around the city of Defiance connect not just to each other but to neighborhoods and the downtown district.
