With heavy hearts, we announce that Finance Director John Lehner is leaving the City of Defiance at the end of December to become the Vice-President for Finance and Administration at Defiance College.
John has been employed at the City of Defiance for thirteen years and has often said, “It’s been the best job I’ve had — and I’ve had a few! It has certainly been the one I’ve stayed with the longest, and I had every hope and intention of retiring from the City.”
For John, his decision to leave is solely based on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to embark into a field that he has long been interested in — Higher Education. He says, “It is similar financial work, but with a completely different mission, and I am excited for the opportunity and looking forward to this new career journey.”
John noted that, “the City is blessed to have first-rate people up and down the organizational chart. All of the employees have been great to work with all these years.”
We will miss John Lehner very much but wish him the very best as he furthers his finance career at Defiance College. We wish you the best, John!
