Compost Site

City of Defiance Compost Site will open for the season on March 16, 2021. Each citizen must empty their own yard waste.

The City of Defiance offers a location for citizens to dispose of yard waste (only leaves, small tree branches, grass, sticks – no cans or bottles or other trash and no bags). The entrance drive is located along the west fence of General Motors.  All private residents are welcome to take compost and mulch from the site when available.

Days and Hours of Operation until November 23, 2021:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturdays:  9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

After November 23, 2021, the compost site will only be open the following dates:

  • Saturday, November 27, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The Compost Site will be closed for the season starting December 4, 2021 and re-open in March 2022. The date to be determined.

The Compost Site is available to Defiance City residents only and must show a valid driver’s license or utility bill to access the site.

Acceptable Materials:

Grass Clippings
Plant Materials
Limbs (under 12″ in diameter)

Non-Acceptable Materials:

Construction Debris
Tree Stumps
Limbs exceeding 12″ in diameter
Trash (cans/plastics/automative parts/etc.)
Animal Waste
Black Walnuts & Hulls

Commercial dumping is prohibited.
