Defiance and Henry Counties to apply for U.S. EPA Brownfield Assessment Coalition grant
Public Meetings scheduled for January 2019
DEFIANCE, OH – Maumee Valley Planning Organization (MVPO) is partnering with Defiance and Henry Counties to apply for an U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Brownfield Assessment Coalition grant totaling $400,000. The funds will be split between the assessment of hazardous substances and petroleum sites.
Brownfields are defined by the U.S. EPA as “real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.”
Assessment of brownfield sites is the first step in identifying potential contaminants and ultimately creating a cleanup and redevelopment plan. Brownfield sites along the Maumee River in the City of Defiance, Village of Florida, and the City of Napoleon are being targeted.
Two public meetings will be held to present information to the public and receive feedback:
– The first meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Napoleon City Building, 255 W. Riverview Ave. Napoleon, OH 43545.
– The second meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 in the Defiance City Hall FRONT CONFERENCE ROOM, 631 Perry St. Defiance, OH 43512.
Maumee Valley Planning Organization (MVPO) is a voluntary association of local governments designated as an Ohio Regional Planning and Development Organization. MVPO serves Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding, and Williams Counties in Northwest Ohio.
